H to Oh

What would happen

If I disappeared completely?
If I faded into the background,

Physically.

What if I tried
but couldn't.

H to Oh is a new performance project by Pele Bauch. Choreographing both events and sound through space, H to Oh aims to create a vibrant and immediate creative encounter in which the audience can almost feel the performance.

The project is being developed with support from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Manhattan Community Arts Fund and Fund for Creative Communities as well as a Joyce SoHo Artist Residency.

Performed right at the audience's feet, -ism offers a rare up-close performance experience. Sliding along the floor, the dancers move like cubist amoebas wrapped in plastic. They crinkle and melt, shifting into twisted stretches and folding through flat tangles. As inevitable as erosion, they rearrange the audience seating as the performance progresses. Some viewers find themselves inside the performance space, watching the dance unfold all around them.

Making -ism

-ism was developed in creative residencies at Dance Theater Workshop, the Chocolate Factory and The Field over a full year. -ism was performed as a work-in-progress Dec 19 + 20, 2006 in The Chocolate Factory's Fresh Meat festival. It was an exciting experiment for audience and performers alike!
